Alfredo Vergara-Lobo, principal at Vergara-Lobo Associates, has a background in education, social work, organizational change, and recreation. He brings years of experience with nonprofit and public entities domestically and abroad to his practice. A popular speaker and presenter, Vergara-Lobo has trained and presented to hundreds of audiences throughout the country and abroad in English and Spanish. He received his master of social work degree from the School of Social Welfare at University of California-Berkeley and his bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University.

Vergara-Lobo has taught in public and private schools in the United States and Latin America and is a guest lecturer for the schools of Social Work and Social Welfare at San Francisco State University and the University of California-Berkeley, respectively.

An expert in nonprofit partnerships, Vergara-Lobo was a funding consultant for the Strategic Solutions project, a national initiative to advance the field of nonprofit partnerships and fine tune knowledge and practice in that area. He has co-authored The M Word: A Board Member’s Guide to Mergers—How, Why, and Why Not to Merge Nonprofit Organizations 2005, CompassPoint Nonprofit Services.

Vergara-Lobo has consulted with dozens of nonprofit organizations, foundations, and government entities domestically and abroad, in English and in Spanish, in the areas of strategic planning, board development, strategic partnerships, and cultural competence. He has co-authored Crossing Borders, Sharing Journeys: Effective Capacity Building with Immigrant and Refugee Groups published in 2006 by Fieldstone Alliance.
